My Great Food 15-Sec Cooking Challenge

 photo b6_zpscbcf53b3.jpg

I love ice cream. Well, everyone does. But if there is one special person who really have that great love for ice cream, that is my little princess Bella. Ice cream is her happy foodie and she would never get tired of eating it. I wanted to make ice cream but it looks really challenging to make one. But one day, I saw something from the internet that we can make ice cream using one ingredient and that is banana.

It can be done by freezing banana overnight or for a couple of hours until they are as hard as a rock. Then blend the banana and you got an ice cream! I tried it and it really was ice cream. You can add other ingredients to it too for more flavoring.

So, when I learned about the My Great Food 15-Sec Cooking Challenge, I immediately thought of making an ice cream banana. But this time with chocolate and brownie. I'll show you how I did it in this post.

Frozen Banana
Magnolia Chocolait
Magnolia Dari Creme butter
Magnolia Fudge Brownie Mix
1 Egg

Prepare the brownie. Don't forget to put Magnolia Dari Creme butter on the pan so the brownie will not stick on it. Follow the instructions written at the back of the box.

The banana ice cream melts easily but it will also melt easily in your mouth too!

Since it was required to upload the video in instagram, I did so. But in truth, I am not happy with how the video turned out when I uploaded it in instagram. I couldn't upload it using my phone. I don't know why. :(  So, I uploaded a clear version in YouTube too. I don't expect to win because of how the video turned out in Instagram. But anyway, I am happy to show you this new recipe of mine.

This is a very easy summer recipe but it will surely make you feel like a real chef with just a few recipes and four simple steps.  What is good about this recipe is that it is healthy and inexpensive too.

DIY Foodie: Heart Shaped Pancakes

Bella love pancakes so much. She feels so happy every time I make pancakes for her but I also see to it that she enjoy every pancake moment. I tried exploring different ways to do it like adding colors, trying different toppings like the colorful pancakes I shared with you before.

But, of all the pancakes, the heart shaped ones are her favorite. Well, I have a thing for hearts that is why I have a heart ring molder that I use for cooking eggs and pancakes too. It is nice to see a heart foodie on the plate!

Pink Pancake Hearts

Simply adding colors to your pancake could be so much fun. Why don't you try pink hearts? Even blue hearts will look yummy! I did this using heart rings too and Bella loved eating them. She didn't want to eat the round ones, only the heart shaped pancakes.

Hahaha! So, you believed me now that she loved the pink heart pancakes? Trivia: It wasn't easy to get the picture of the pancakes above because Bella kept on getting Crumbs from the plate and she kept on eating the I needed to hide just to take the photo.

Pancake Hearts Chocolate Overload

In making this, all you have to do is follow the usual pancake recipe and add some cocoa powder into it. For the white filling, I used a little flour, milk and sugar mixed together on s boiling water until they are a bit sticky. Then, finish the love with some chocolate syrup on it. Now, that is chocolate overload!

Eating pancakes will no longer be boring if you experiment with them. Why don't you try it too?

Macaroni Pasta Pizza

Pizza is love. Well, not all of us like eating pizzas but most of us love them! We are used to eating pizza with a crust made from flour. But today, I will show you a different kind of pizza. The crust is made from pasta! Check out this recipe:

What You Need:

2 pc (large) eggs (beaten)
⅓ cup evaporated milk
2 ½ tbsp all-purpose flour
3 ½ tbsp cheese (grated)
100 grams chicken breast (cooked with dash of salt, then diced) or you can also use meat from leftover food but be sure that food is still good and not stale
½ cup cooked green peas
250 grams spaghetti sauce
Slices of pineapple

1. You do not have to cook the pasta. Just mix them with eggs (beat it first), then add milk, flour, cheese, chicken or meat, peas and Macaroni. Season with iodized fine salt and a bit of pepper. Mix well.

2. When the mixture is ready, heat skillet or non stick pan with oil. Measure 1 cup of macaroni mixture into it and flatten into an even layer. Cook for 2 minutes then flip to cook other side.

3. After cooking the macaroni, add some sauce on top while it is still on the pan. Then remove from pan. Sprinkle with grated cheese, add some pineapple slices on top and your macaroni pizza is done!

The measurements above could make 5 servings but it actually depends on how big your pizza is. You can also cook the pasta first if you want to but if you fry it raw, it will just be cooked with the frying and it will turn out a bit crunchy. This is very delicious! My mother cooked this two times already and it is indeed a yummy snack. Why don't you try it too?

Bananas are Yummy- But What Else?

I remember how my brother and I could finish a tray of bananas when we were still kids. It was like a healthy popcorn version for us because we would watch TV while eating the bananas. Well, it sure is a healthy thing to do. Our mom would even call us monkeys. We are banana lovers but it doesn't mean we are monkeys. lol

Bella also loves bananas. Every time she sees those yellow fruits on a tray, she would say, "Mommy, I want to eat banana." And when she has eaten one banana, she would ask for another one saying, "Want another banana." We are glad that Bella likes eating bananas and other fruits too. Good thing there are lots of bananas in our country.

Bananas in the Philippines

The Philippines is the third largest producer of bananas. This is because of the tropical climate in our area which is perfect for growing bananas. Banana is a common snack or merienda in our country. As a matter of fact, I consider this as one of my favorite snacks. But if you think this is the usual yellow bananas that are merely peeled before eaten, you are wrong. I'll be showing you one banana recipe that I love to cook and of course EAT! But before that, allow me to show you the different varieties of bananas that grow in my country.

philippine banana varieties

1. Señorita bananas. These are small bananas but are sweet and very tasty! They are small just like the size of a finger but it looks like a fat finger :D

2. Latundan bananas. These bananas are round-tipped with thin yellow skin that splits once fully ripe. This is most commonly available in the market.

3. Lacatan bananas. These bananas come in different sizes. They can be long and slender and some are long and chubby. You can just let them ripe on your kitchen and you'll get a yummy aroma once its ripe.

4. Cavendish bananas. These are also called "dessert" or Chiquita bananas and are usually for export especially that they have long storage life.

5. Cardaba or Saba bananas. These bananas have a robust shape and are larger. It has a starchy flavor perfect for cooking. This is used to make banana chips, banana cue and other delicious recipes.

It is said that the Philippines has so many banana varieties which means that there are still a lot of them missing in my list. These are the only ones I know about. My mom said that there are also bananas that have so many seeds in it. They used to play with the seeds like a gun by blowing the seeds from their mouths towards their playmates when they were still kids. It sounds funny to me especially that I haven't encountered bananas with seeds.

Oh. Here is one banana fact that I want to share to you:

banana fact

Bananas are Healthy!

Of course they are! That is why it is recommended to eat them. Even babies can eat them already especially that they are soft. There are also baby foods that are banana flavored. Bananas are a good source of potassium, dietary fiber, manganese and vitamins B6 & C. Primarily, they are really a good source of potassium. A 100 g banana could provide 358 mg potassium. This is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Eating 100 g of bananas could provide 90 calories. It has fibers in it which helps in digestion and lessens constipation problems. It can also be a moderate source of vitamin-C which helps protect us from infectious agents. Eating fresh bananas could also give adequate levels of minerals like copper, magnesium, and manganese.

Well, who would doubt the health benefits of a banana? I guess no one would!

Banana Cue (Caramelized Banana) Recipe

banana cue

As promised, I am going to share to you one of my favorite banana recipes. We are going to use a Saba banana for this recipe. Saba can be cooked in so many ways and would always be delicious! Sometimes, we just cook them in water and then eat them once cooked. You can also grill them which we locally call "Dangdang Q" haha. I dunno why we call it that way. It can also be a perfect addition to a Halo-halo (Mix-mix) which is a refreshing snack with different ingredients in it mixed together. Oh well, I couldn't talk about the different Saba recipes on one post. I can share to you other recipes next time. For now, here is how you can make a Banana Cue or Banana Q or a Caramelized Banana. Whatever you call it, it is still delicious!

What You Need:
Saba Bananas
Brown Sugar
Cooking Owl

1. Peel and cut the bananas in halves crosswise.
2. Heat oil on pan.
3. Place bananas on pan then let it cook for a while.
4. Add sugar and let it melt until it sticks to the bananas. But sometimes I prefer to eat it with crunchy sugar around the bananas so I don't let it melt too much. :)
5. Wait until golden brown and your done.

It is that simple but is very very delicious! Well, I might be a bit biased because this is a personal fave but I think if you try making one, you'll love it too. This taste a lot better when wrapped with Spring-roll/ Lumpia wrappers. Nom nom nom.

So that's it for today. I just wanted to share something that I love a lot. If your kiddos don't eat bananas, you can let them see this videos:

This is a fun song from Pancake Manor. Bella likes this very much.Or they might want to see another Banana Song from the famous banana characters called Minions from Despicable Me:

If the first video was a fun banana song, the second one is a funny song.lols. These Minions are really cute! I can't help but laugh. Well, that could be one thing a banana could give us all: HAPPINESS.

Chocolate Chips

1. I used instant oatmeal because that was the only one available but you can also use cooking oats. I place hot water to the oatmeal first to be sure it will me cooked. lol. But I only placed a small amount.
2. I took choco chips or biscuits and crushed them. I mixed it with the oatmeal
3. On a bowl, I placed one egg and beat it. I added sugar and butter afterwards.

6. I baked it for around 10 minutes.

And then they are done. Mini-Lalaloopsy Crumbs Sugar Cookie then came for the picture taking.

DIY Foodie: Sleepy Bear Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because from the name itself, it breaks the fasting from a long sleep during the night until you wake up in the morning. That is why it is important that you let your kids eat breakfast everyday. This energizes them for the activities the whole day. We make breakfast for our kids everyday and sometimes, it would already look boring. So, why not try to add some creativity into it?

I could remember that hubby and I used to make meals that look sweet. When I say sweet, it really just look sweet but tastes like an ordinary But the appearance differs. We form rice into letters to make I Love You or whatever we can think of. It is a surprise for both us - whoever wakes up first. But we don't do it everyday, just whenever we feel like doing it. Now that we have Bella, I tried to experiment with a breakfast for her.

creative breakfast for kids

I actually did this for an assignment in online cooking course and I forgot to share it with you. This is just comprised of rice for the bear, scrambled eggs for the blanket and some tomatoes for the pillow. When Bella saw this, she said, "Eat bear." lols. Every time she sees this picture, she would always grab my hand and ask me to cook so she can eat the bear once again.

You can also do whatever you want with your kid's breakfast just to make it look more exciting. This way, they will feel excited to wake up the next day to check what is in store for them on their plates!

DIY Foodie: Choco Apple Macaroni Salad

Sometimes, it is fun to experiment with whatever is available for making yummy snacks. Today, I created a salad which Bella called as "ice cream" because of the combination of cream and choco syrup. Salads are one of my favorites. I especially love the taste of condensed milk and cream together that is why I would have these stuffs in the kitchen most of the time so that I can just dunk some fruits into it whenever I want to. Well, today's recipe is just simple. I combined:

Sliced Apples
Condensed Milk
Cubed Cheese
Chocolate Syrup

First, cook the macaroni the usual way by boiling water with a little bit of salt and oil. Then after draining, mix it with the rest of the ingredients except the chocolate syrup. The choco syrup is optional. But if you mix it with the salad, it tastes really yummy and totally chocolatey! So, instead of placing it on the entire mixture, anyone who would love to have chocolate would just place it on his own cup or container.

You can also try experimenting with any fruits and you'll get a yummy dessert!
